Tempe earns award for budget



TEMPE, Ariz. - The Government Finance Officers Association of the United
States and Canada (GFOA) presented the City of Tempe the GFOA's
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for it budget.



The award reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting
the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the
budget award, Tempe had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for
effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how
well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, financial plan,
operations guide and communication tool. Budget documents must be rated
"proficient" in all four categories to receive the award.



Tempe was awarded this honor in January and recognition for having achieved
the award will be presented at the August 19 City Council Meeting to Cecilia
Velasco-Robles, Deputy Financial Services Manager; and Debbie Bair, Michelle
Caruso and Tom Mikesell, Budget Analysts.



Since the inception of the GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards
Program in 1984, approximately 900 entities have received the Award. Award
recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and
provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.



The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional
association serving 14,000 government finance professionals throughout North
America. The GFOA's Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the
only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
