Explore North America's Underground Railroad as ASU to You concludes series
TEMPE, Ariz. - Photographer and Arizona State University School of Art
Professor Stephen Marc will guide a discussion on "Diversity of Expression:
Exploring the Underground Railroad" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the
TLC Classroom, Public Library, 3500 S. Rural Road, as the ASU to YOU:
Coffee, Conversation & the Arts lecture series concludes its 2004-2005
season.
Marc is recognized for his unique and powerful photographic montages that
explore the African Diaspora. His images combine family snapshots, antique
photographs and images from his own extensive body of photographic work. The
dual themes of all his work are an attempt to tell both his personal story
and the story of a culture.
Marc's current project, "Passage on the Underground Railroad," explores
North America's Underground Railroad, which moved escaped slaves to freedom.
In the past four years, he has taken more than 30,000 photographs of people
and places in 21 states and Canada. The project will culminate in a book and
exhibition of Marc's Underground Railroad artwork.
ASU to YOU features faculty and staff from the Katherine K. Herberger
College of Fine Arts, who facilitate free discussions on a wide range of
culture-related topics. Attendees are invited to bring friends and enjoy a
lively evening of coffee and conversation.
