Tempe Police Offering FREE Auto Theft Deterrent

Tempe Police Offering FREE Auto Theft Deterrent

Crime Free Multi-Housing Coordinator

(480) 858-6337

In the City of Tempe, we continue to beat the H.E.A.T. - Help Eliminate Auto
Theft. You can help us fight auto theft by participating in the FREE
Vehicle Identification Etching being offered by the Tempe Police
Department's Crime Prevention Unit.

Saturday, March 19, 2005

9 a.m. to noon

Robert L Hawk Memorial Sub-Station /Crime Prevention Building

10 W. Guadalupe Road / south end of Kiwanis Park

(Northwest corner of All American Way and Guadalupe)

Love your car - Give It a Tattoo. The etching is a permanent theft
deterrent device applied to all the window glass on your vehicle. When the
VIN number etchings are applied, thieves will see the etched windows and
will think twice about stealing your vehicle. As a result of the etching,
thieves will have to replace every piece of glass on your vehicle before
illegally selling it. This costs the thieves extra time and money, enough
to make them move on to easier targets.

Please access entrance to the VIN Etching Event off of All American Way.
Residents will need to provide proof of vehicle ownership. Drivers will be
given the opportunity to sign up for the FREE Watch Your Car Program.

In addition, we will be offering FREE visual anti-theft devices to the first
35 individuals to have their vehicle VIN Etched.

Dutch researchers find standard heartburn drugs may likely increase pneumonia risk.

"Study finds medications reduce germ-killing stomach acid. World's Largest Annual Outdoor Easter Pageant Draws Crowds Topping 150,000 During 10-Day Run

World's Largest Annual Outdoor Easter Pageant Draws Crowds Topping 150,000 During 10-Day Run

MESA, Ariz.

Mesa will once again be home to the world's largest annual outdoor Easter pageant as "Jesus the Christ," a dramatic musical production depicting the life, teachings, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, is presented on the grounds of the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors' Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The pageant opens with a public-invited dress rehearsal on Wednesday, March 16, with an English-language performance at 7 p.m. and a Spanish-language performance at 8:30 p.m.

Spanish-language performances then run from March 17-19 (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). English-language performances are scheduled for the following week, March 22-26 (Tuesday-Saturday). These performances begin at 8 p.m.

For the first time in more than 20 years, the Mesa Arizona Easter Pageant will undergo significant changes. Though costumes are routinely updated and some members of the cast replaced each year, modifications for this year's pageant include changes to the script, a new soundtrack and a state-of-the-art sound system with additional high-tech speakers.

Nanci Wudel, pageant director, said surveys of past attendees indicated that some of the Biblical wording and deeper symbolism was difficult for some to understand and that changes could make the pageant text more audience-friendly.

"In making the changes, the focus will remain on Christ," said Wudel. "All changes are for the purpose of most effectively and even more powerfully communicating the life and mission of the Savior," she said.

Those previously attending the pageant will notice that certain scenes in both the English- and Spanish-language versions have been added this year while others have been deleted.

No detail has gone unnoticed, as even voices recorded for the Roman soldiers were spoken by Italian actors whose second language is English. A new, state-of-the-art soundtrack will replace the old one, used since the early 1980s. In addition, the costume committee has been hard at work since June of last year, making changes to several costumes, including all of the Apostles'.

With a new narration and an updated soundtrack, Wudel said people who have seen the pageant in the past will want to see it all over again to witness the changes for themselves. "It's very beautiful, particularly the new music. Beautiful and so powerful," said Wudel.

"As we've been working on our pre-production, many of us have commented on how it sounds like a new pageant," she said. "We're looking forward to sharing this message with everyone for the Easter season."

The pageant will be performed on the grounds of the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors' Center, which is located at 525 E. Main Street in Mesa. Parking is free and is available in adjoining parking lots or on neighboring streets. Wheelchair seating, signing for the hearing impaired, Spanish-language and English-language interpreters, and public restrooms are available. Ten thousand chairs are set up on the lawn area with open seating (no tickets required). Audience members may also bring blankets to sit on. Food is also permitted on the grounds. Guests are encouraged to anticipate cooler evenings and potential rain.

For more information about the Mesa Arizona Easter Pageant and for parking information, call the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitors' Center at 480-964-7164, or check online at www.easterpageant.org.

Mayor, Southwest Airlines CEO to Celebrate New Concourse Opening at Sky Harbor

Mayor, Southwest Airlines CEO to Celebrate New Concourse Opening at Sky Harbor

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 1, 2005

Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly will tear down the final construction wall on Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport's newest concourse Monday, March 7, at 1:00 p.m. The event will take place at Terminal 4, level 3 inside the new "D" concourse on the southwest side of the terminal. The concourse will provide eight new gates for Southwest Airlines. The project will also add a fourth state of the art security checkpoint to Sky Harbor's busiest terminal. "Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport continues to see record passengers," said Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. "This new concourse demonstrates the City of Phoenix Aviation Department's commitment to serving a growing number of customers."

Concourse "D" will open to the public March 8. It is designed not only to be functional but also aesthetically pleasing. Large windows take advantage of Arizona's natural lighting and provide a panoramic view of the airfield. Passengers will be able to look at passing planes through several vintage, free-standing binoculars placed in front of a 30-foot-tall window wall. Compass tiles on the floor point to destinations around the globe, including 16 Phoenix sister cities.

"This new concourse is certainly impressive, but it also has a comfortable feel," said Phoenix Vice Mayor Michael Johnson. "It will remind passengers of the grand old airports and train stations." Restaurant seating in the new concourse was designed with the air traveler in mind. Seats are placed in strategic locations, so that travelers can see their gates while they are eating. New restaurants opening March 8 inside Concourse D include Clubhouse Bar and Grill and Starbucks. They will soon be joined by El Bravo Mexican Food, Yoshi's Asian Grill and Wendy's. New shops inside the concourse include The Phoenix souvenir shop, CNBC News, AZ Grillin' southwestern packaged foods and Brighton Collectibles on the passenger bridge which leads to the next concourse.

Construction on the $50 million project began in October of 2003. This new concourse will be the seventh at Terminal 4, which has a total capacity of eight concourses.
